Jamaica is Calling… HELP!I am at a loss for words. The world has seen the devastation that has taken place in my homeland of Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa has decimated substantial sections of the Island. Although they may not all have taken a battering, no parish was left unscathed – Melissa’s fury was felt islandwide – some areas felt it much more than some.
People are homeless, without food, without clothes. Utilities and social infrastructure are down. There’s no electricity; no running water; hospitals, schools, supermarkets, are demolished. The magnitude of the destruction is on a scale that many have never seen before.
How do you go on? How do you pick up the pieces when they disintegrate in your hands – water-soaked, moldy, everything… spoiled.
Jamaica needs your help. I will use my different platforms to share information. Many individuals and organizations have been galvanized into action. You too can make a difference. If you’re in Canada and you would like to donate, reach out to the Jamaican Canadian Centre or the Jamaican High Commission in Canada and they will instruct you on how you can donate.
